GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS SPONSOR JOE MORGAN CELEBRITY GOLF INVITATIONAL FOR SUMMIT BANK FOUNDATION
OAKLAND, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE) –The Golden State Warriors will sponsor the 2014 Joe Morgan Celebrity Golf Invitational Tournament for the Summit Bank Foundation. The Tournament, which will be held on Monday, July 21, 2014 at the Diablo Country Club, is a day-long golf extravaganza featuring local celebrities and sports stars as they team up with foursomes to support and contribute to cancer research at UCSF Helen Diller Cancer Research Center.
The Summit Bank Foundation was created in 1998 by dedicated Bay Area business professionals under the direction of Summit Bank. The bank started the Foundation as a lightning rod of support for the East Bay and to rally community-minded business people to the call. Summit Bank supports the infrastructure of the Foundation as its gift to the community. As part of its efforts to address the needs of the community, the Foundation founded and continues to maintain the Bill Russell Scholarship Fund. The Fund provides 4-year scholarships to students from Bill Russell’s alma mater McClymonds High School, where he was told he had no chance to go to college. The recipients of his scholarship are students who have faced a similar challenge as Russell, and are given the opportunity to attend a 4-year college that Russell never had. Once funded, the Foundation decided to honor other members of the community by establishing funds to support more students. The Foundation currently honors Bill Russell, Joe Morgan, James Falaschi, Eddie R. Orton, and Vida Blue with individual funds. Through these college scholarship programs, 11 students each year can continue their educational pursuits.
The Summit Bank Foundation organizes two annual events, the Red & White Ball – a holiday charity event that is the traditional kick-off to the season of giving, and the Joe Morgan Celebrity Golf Invitational Tournament. The proceeds from these events provide funding for the dedicated clinicians and researchers at UCSF Helen Diller Cancer Research Center.
